Also known as toughleaf iris, as its strong leaf fiber was used by indigenous peoples for ropes, nets, and snares. The gorgeous blooms range from light pink to deep magenta with intricate veining and a splash of yellow. These are found in meadows, prairies, and open woodlands from low to mid elevations. Sun to part shade. Sow in fall for cold stratification.
