Chocolate Lily (Fritillaria affinis)

from 3.50

Also known as Checker Lily or Mission Bells, this perennial is found in open dry woods and meadows, so it likes good drainage and part to full sun. The pendulous flowers are brown mottled with amber, especially on the inside. Plant in fall for cold stratification. Plants germinate easily but will take a number of seasons to reach flowering stage, then spread by tiny rice like bulbs as well as seed. The seedheads are also visually interesting in the garden.
